British Armed Forces veterans to compete with their Israeli counterparts
UK vets to travel to Israel in May to join this year's Veteran Games and Conference
Dozens of British Armed Forces personnel injured during their service are to take part in this year’s Veteran Games in Israel, where they will compete against peers injured while serving in the IDF.
The Games, which began in 2019 and is funded entirely by philanthropic donations, will use Israel’s state-of-the-art rehab facilities, as the event takes place across Jerusalem and Tel Aviv from 29 May to 3 June.
Mark Ormrod, the Veteran Games and Conference Ambassador, said: “I am extremely proud to support this important event. Sport has played a massive part in motivating me to achieve new goals and not be defined by my injuries.”
The Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX) is among the sponsors of the Games and associated Conference, which will feature experts in the field of mental health from both Britain and Israel, discussed issues such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Leo Docherty, the UK Minister for Defence People and Veterans, said: “I wish good luck to all the athletes in this year’s games and thank charities across the UK for their continued dedication and support for our disabled veterans.”
