World-famous magician and social media star Julius Dein has lost millions of followers in the wake of the Israel Hamas war for speaking openly about his Jewish heritage but vowed to continue to do so.

Posting on his LinkedIn page on Tuesday, Dein, who has over 70 million followers across his social platforms and boasted the most viewed Facebook page in the world, wrote: “I’ve lost MILLIONS of social followers in the last 6 months. Because I’ve spoken about my Jewish heritage openly and condemned actions that I think are wrong.”

Dein continued: “I’m proud to be Jewish. But celebrating that publicly has been tough” and went on to say that he had received threats of violence, had racism directed at him and received death threats in his DMs.

A former JFS boy, Dein, who has build his illustrious career around social media with his viral videos averaging more than 100 million daily views, acknowledged its darker side. He wrote: “It [social media] can also bring out the worst in people. With little accountability, with little vetting/fact-checking, with little consequences for trolls. ”

He noted that 95 per cent of creators have experienced hate and harassment online and said that while disagreement is fine, “threatening violence, making racist comments and encouraging others to engage in hate-filled actions is wrong. In 2024, there’s no place for it.”

The 30 year-old, who has performed for A-list celebrities including Lionel Messi, Jeff Bezos and Drake, said he would “continue to talk about my heritage. It’s a part of me.”

In February, Julius told Jewish News how he was focusing on philanthropy this year, funding and building schools in Uganda.
