Tech that! Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra review – ✡✡✡✡ ½
Daniel Elias reviews the new phone offering from Samsung
What is it?
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is Samsung’s top tier flagship phone for the year. Samsung has consolidated its offerings by moving the Note device to their S line and branded it as such. The Ultra is big, boxy, and bold, and in true Samsung style, it’s packed with pretty much every feature (useful or not) that you could want.
Plus points:
· The build of the phone is top notch. Probably one of the few Android phones whose hardware can stand shoulder to shoulder with the iPhone
· Samsung phones are known for their amazing screens, and this doesn’t disappoint. It’s brighter and punchier than any other phone
· It’s ultrasonic under screen fingerprint reader has improved dramatically
· The S Pen is back! It’s useful to have and works really well but in my testing, I only used it a handful of times. Each person’s use case will differ
· Cameras are a real win for this phone. Its four rear lenses and selfie camera produce vibrant, clear, and sharp images. To quote a photographer I showed this to, he said “this phone’s going to put me out of business”
Nil points:
· Samsung promised that their S22 phones would support native camera integration in apps such as Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. As of the publishing of this review, only Snapchat seems to be supported which is a huge shame.
· Battery life was good but not great. I could easily drain this phone by early evening, but I must say that it seemed to improve towards the end of my review period
· The phones rear lenses protrude just enough to create an annoying wobble when typing on a flat surface
· This phone doesn’t come cheap. At £1500 on the top end, it will make your bank account cry

Verdict: Samsung continues to impress the market by what it can do with its phones. The S22 Ultra is part of that success. It’s probably the best Android phone you can get on the market right now and its camera will even make an iPhone users head turn.
